A Rubric for Evaluating your Residential Curriculum Facilitation Guides

One of the essential elements of a curricular approach is to have a regular review process in place. Peer review is one of the best ways of building buy-in for your curriculum and improving its effectiveness. Divisions and departments will approach the peer-review process differently. Some may choose to set aside a “review day” a couple of times a year, while others may designate a portion of their regular weekly/monthly meetings for review. Curriculum review is also something you can (and should) build into your regular day-to-day processes.

Part of this review process may include a comprehensive review of your strategy facilitation guides–the documents that detail how a specific strategy should be implemented. The following rubric is one you can use for reviewing your facilitation guides. It’s broken out into two main categories:

  1. Curricular Connections – Related to the goals and outcomes of your curriculum, the outcomes of the strategy itself, and assessment.
  2. Content – Related to the specific details of the facilitation guide’s design and pedagogy.

Please feel free to use this rubric in your practice and/or modify it to fit your needs. You can view it below and also download it as a PDF. The only thing we ask in return is that you give credit to Paul Gordon Brown and Roompact.

Happy scoring!

The Residential Curriculum Self-Assessment Instrument

Another resource you may find useful is Roompact’s “Residential Curriculum Self-Assessment Instrument.”

“The following Self-Assessment Instrument was developed by the educational professionals at Roompact to provide a free resource for schools implementing a curricular approach to their work. This document is intended for use by institutions to assess the strength of their current curricular efforts and identify areas for improvement. It is our hope that it will provide a standard by which schools can benchmark their efforts.”
