If you or someone you know is an amazing writer with a housing and residence life background, who is also looking for a professional development opportunity (while getting paid for it), take a look at our Freelance Content Contributor position. We’ve offered these positions for a number of years now, and they’ve been really successful in creating great content to help housing and residence life staff improve their practice, and in providing a professional development and networking opportunity for the writers themselves. We hire these positions under a cohort model, where writers have the opportunity to connect with other professionals in community and explore ideas.
We’re hiring for a multiple of these positions in two cohorts (one focused on developing content for grads/professionals and one focused on student staff audiences). Applications close on January 31, 2026. “Interviews” will be rolling through February with an expected start date of March. See below for the position description.
To apply, fill out the quick Google Form at the link below. In order to assess your writing, we ask that you write a sample blog post. Depending on which team you want to apply for, we are asking different prompts. If you want to be considered for both, please write one for both (and include both posts in your form submission).
If applying to write for professional/grad audiences…
Respond to the prompt… “How is the rising generation of college students changing residence life practice?”
If applying to write for student staff audiences…
You have a choice (but chose only one). You can write a post that provides:
- 1 Tip for New RAs… OR
- 1 Tip for Returning RAs…
We’ve previously had some writers contribute to this. To see their examples, see below.
*A NOTE ABOUT AI: AI tools like ChatGPT can be a great brainstorming tool, but they produce overly-generic and impersonal blog posts. (Trust us, we can tell!) That’s not what we’re looking for. If it was, we wouldn’t be hiring bloggers. 🙂 Use your professional knowledge and personal experience to inform and enlighten your post! If your post reads as AI, we may reject and not publish the post.
Since we receive so many great sample posts, we’d hate to have that effort and work go to waste. If you’d like (totally optional and does not impact your candidacy in any way) you can opt in to having your sample blog post(s) potentially published (even if you’re not ultimately hired). After reviewing your post, if we decide to publish it (and in 95% of cases we do) you will receive a $100 gift card from giftcards.com that you can exchange for a gift card of your choice. Additionally, you will also receive a personalized caricature from a commissioned artist which we’ll use in the posting and provide to you to use however you wish. (Roompact reserves the right to reject any blog post submissions for publication, and therefore the gift card and caricature, for any reason.)*
Your post should be at least one page, single-spaced, in 10-12 point font with standard 1 inch margins.
