Oklahoma State University

Assistant Director of Residential Life

The Assistant Director of Residential Life, is responsible for working with the Housing & Residential Life Department to establish and maintain a community within the residence halls that is conducive to the academic and personal growth of students and is consistent with the University and Housing & Residential Life philosophy and mission, as well as , an environment that is representative of the guidelines laid out by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education for Housing & Residential Life programs. The Assistant Director will assist in the administration and supervision of single student housing operations; plan and implement student staff training; assess, advance and implement the student development program in support of a public research education; advise support, and educate students and student groups; and review and develop Residential Life policies. Monitor and oversee student case summaries, monthly dashboard reports, building analytics and case turnaround analysis; Follow up on educational sanctions and other types of student outreach; Create, oversee, and assess departmental crisis management policies and emergency procedures and the Residence Hall Policies and Safety and Security procedures in the Community Standards Handbook. Provides oversight of eleven residence halls housing 2,600+ students. Actively supervises and evaluates staff at all levels in the residence halls. Assist in the recruitment, selection, and training of Residential Living Staff. Plans and implements operational and educational policies. Coordinates with Facilities Management to ensure that all resident issues and needs are resolved in a timely manner. In addition, the Assistant Director works closely with the housing staff to respond and monitor all protocol issues. All other duties as assigned. This is an 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday position. At peaks times during the year the position will require evenings and weekends. Serves as part of a crisis duty rotation. Tasks may take place at any time a student or staff member requires the presence of the Assistant Director to resolve a particularly difficult or emergency situation. To remain updated on the latest techniques and programs in residence hall living, occasional travel to Regional and National conferences. The Assistant Director needs to reside within a 20 minute driving distance to campus. Must be able to periodically travel to all halls and suites within area of responsibility (up to 1.5 miles).

Wright State University

Community Director
Dayton, OH

The Community Director (CD) is a full-time, live-in, professional position responsible for the daily operation of a co-ed residential community (apartments or traditional residence halls) housing from 300-500 students. The Community Director will create an administratively efficient, comprehensive and responsive student-centered educational program that positively influences student learning & development while maximizing an enjoyable living experience. Developing interaction between students, administrators, and faculty; encouraging community service opportunities and collaborating with the academic affairs and student affairs units will be primary mechanisms to promote this environment. Out-of-class activities will be directed to achieve optimal integration of academic, cultural, recreational and social opportunities with the aim to foster behavior patterns known to promote healthy communities.

The Area Coordinator oversees a residential community and supervises Graduate Fellows and student staff. Through the implementation of a residential curriculum, this role supports student learning and development while also managing community standards, occupancy processes, and ongoing operational needs. Area Coordinators respond to the evolving needs of their communities and contribute to broader Residential Education initiatives by supporting projects and collaborating with Residential Education leadership.

Community Director

The Community Director (CD) is responsible for establishing and sustaining positive residential communities that embolden the motto and mission of Pro Humanitate through practices of experiential learning, community service, and student behavior management. The Community Director is an educator who works to develop and coordinate residential communities of approximately 400 – 600 undergraduate students. The CD works to expand and heighten the intellectual climate and culture of Wake Forest through co-curricular initiatives, mentorship, faculty engagement, curriculum implementation, and the management of a comprehensive residence life and housing program that serves 4000+ on-campus students. As a live-in staff member, the CD is a full-time, twelve-month position that reports directly to an Assistant Director of Residence Life and supervises 15 to 26 Resident Advisers. Due to CDs being the primary professional staff members available in the residence halls for student contact, some evening and weekend time working with students is required.
