Whimsy-Max Your ResLife Workday

Whimsy has become an internet phenomenon in the year of 2026 – and for good reason! The concept of whimsy has helped bring joy and fun into small moments during day-to-day life. From adding sprinkles to a coffee to getting lost on purpose, whimsy is how a lot of people are intentionally slowing down and being silly in a capitalistic society where hustling and conformity is the norm.

In Residence Life, we are often in the midst of crisis situations and a whole lot of stress. The term “overworked and underpaid” gets thrown around a lot. Adding whimsy into your day will not change a toxic workplace nor will it stop you from experiencing stress from the job. However, joy building through whimsy can be a form of resistance in a world that wants to keep us tired, overworked, and underpaid.

Here are 25 ideas to add whimsy into your workday:

  1. Make a playlist for your workday or utilize spotify daylists
  2. Change up your work location – work from a hammock if able one day or from a cafe on campus
  3. Personalize your desktop background seasonally or monthly

  5. Make your to-do list with sparkly gel pens
