Roompact’s door dec competition is now closed and we’re ready to announce the winners. We received 85+ entries (!), so picking ten was incredibly difficult. We tried to select a diverse group of winners that reflected the diversity of the submissions themselves.
Thank you to all who entered! Your ideas are now a resource for future RAs to use for inspiration.

Access our resource page for more ideas and examples of staff-created door decs and bulletin boards.

In no particular order…

Gareth

I created these door decs for my residents (and I wanted to do all 9 emotions because I know how scary coming to college for the first time can be, so I wanted to make sure my residents know that all emotions are valid!!!!!

Jaimie

These door decs were inspired by one of my favorite anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End!

Abigail

Every semester I have picked a Studio Ghibli film as inspiration. So far, I have done Princess Mononoke, Howl’s moving castle, Totoro, Ponyo, and this year….Spirted away! I hand cut out all my pieces (including the eyes) and after gluing them all together I outline every single one in marker! It’s so much work but I love putting my all into everything especially for my residents!

Maya
The University of Texas at Austin
Each resident gets a hand painted watercolor door dec based on iconic Austin places/symbols, here are some of my favorites!

Ashley

William

Here’s my entry – origami tulips (with assorted colors). I’m very proud of them because I had to fold over 100 sheets of paper over about 10 hours!

Ava

Naomi
Oregon State University

Lonnie
East Texas AM University

Brandon
University of Memphis
I call my residents the Care Bear Squad! When my residents joined the GroupMe I created, they first had to take a short BuzzFeed quiz to find out which Care Bear they matched with. After they shared their result in the group chat, I designed their door decoration to match their Care Bear they were most like.
Just like the Care Bears, each of you brings something totally unique and special to our community-your own “belly badge” of strengths, talents, and personality. Each one different, but they all work together to support each other. That’s exactly how I see us. Each of you has your own strengths, talents, and personality, and those differences make our community stronger. You’re all valuable on your own, but when we combine what we bring to the table, we can help each other out and be there when it counts. That’s what being part of this team means-showing up for one another, making sure everyone feels supported, and knowing that if you ever need me, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here for all of you.
