Roompact’s bulletin board competition is now closed and we’re ready to announce the winners. We received over 100 entires (!), so picking ten was incredibly difficult. Some boards did an excellent job at educating residents, while others were just beautiful! We tried to select a diverse group of winners that reflected the diversity of the submissions themselves.
Thank you to all who entered! Your ideas are now a resource for future RAs to use for inspiration.

“This is my Hispanic heritage board for the month of Sep-October. This board was intended to celebrate Hispanic culture and history across time with important Hispanic figures. I made extra emphasis to also include information from every country and culture within this celebration.”

“This was my second bulletin board of the year and I wanted to showcase all the resources we have at TXST for my residents to utilize as they fully get into the swing of their first semester in college. And my favorite part about boards is using inspiration from my door decs, I designed 6 different retro characters and for each of my boards I made them big! So for this board I made, my personal favorite, the Daisy the giant door Dec of the month!”

Foluke
University of Connecticut
“This is a board I made for Women’s History Month which was created to celebrate Black women in the arts as I am the RA of a Black Female Living and Learning Community (BSOUL). I used battery operated Tea Lights to surround the title board to make it more dynamic. Additionally I used a red plastic table cloth to make the curtains and shimmer mesh to make the beams of light in the backdrop. In the center I put Zendaya because she is a figure that my residents and I really look up to and is making major strides for Black women in the arts.”

Zoie

“My submission for the bulletin board contest is my board on women’s history month. I chose to include well known female authors, and images of their most popular books. For the dress of the woman, I incorporated pages from a women’s history textbook and folded/layered the pages to make a pleated dress.”

Following UConn’s Residential Life Model the RA bulletin board titled “Herstory in Focus” is celebrating Women’s History Month by showcasing the groundbreaking achievements of women across various disciplines. The display features iconic women who have shaped history, with their stories presented as rolls of film. Each roll symbolizes a captured moment in time, encapsulating their pivotal contributions that have made lasting impacts. From trailblazing scientists and artists to leaders in politics and social justice, these snapshots immortalize their historical significance, highlighting their dedication, resilience, and the vital roles they have played in shaping the world we live in today. “Herstory in Focus” serves not only as a tribute to the women whose stories continue to inspire generations, but the women in the Women in Mathematics, Science, & Engineering (WiMSE) Learning Community on campus who are crafting their own herstories.
- Pink backing with pink and white double boarding
- Play on words with the board theme, the board title: “Herstory in Focus”
- Camera flash in the shutter made from iridescent treat bags
- Camera lens made of reflective flexible mirror so residents can see themselves physically reflected and a part of the presented histories
- Kodak film roll made of cardboard boxes and colored construction paper
- Film made of standard copy paper attached in a bent manner to provide a 3D effect

Tandem with the board was a polaroid door decoration for each resident that was laminated and made of the same reflective flexible mirror as on the bulletin’s camera lens, serving as a reminder that as women in STEM, the resident’s presence and contributions have and will continue to make history wherever their futures lead them.
